Understanding the Venturi Effect

The Venturi effect is based on fluid dynamics principles. When a fluid flows through a pipe and encounters a constriction, its speed increases at that point due to the reduced cross-sectional area. According to the principle of continuity, the mass flow rate of the fluid must remain constant as it moves through different sections of the pipe. To achieve this, fluid molecules must pass through the narrowed area at a higher velocity.

This increased flow speed at the constriction creates a temporary low-pressure zone, while the pressure in other parts of the pipe remains higher. This pressure difference causes fluid from surrounding areas to move toward the constricted point.

In various applications, including fluid piping systems, this principle effectively draws liquids toward regions of lower pressure. Ultimately, the vacuum created by the fast-moving fluid facilitates the discharge of liquid through other pipes.
